A watermill built atop the River Wensum in 1757 is now a beautiful country pub, set in the heart of the glorious Norfolk countryside. We have recently refurbished this historic building to create a haven for pub lovers and foodies. Our relaxing guest bedrooms all have soothing views of the gardens and river, making them the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Located near the Georgian market town of Fakenham, Sculthorpe Mill is surrounded by opulent farming land, and next door to the Hawk an Owl Trust – a haven for nature lover and walkers alike. For those looking for the pleasures of the beach, Sculthorpe Mill is just a stone’s throw from the stunning North Norfolk Coast. The stately homes of Sandringham, Houghton and Holkham are all within a 20 minute drive.
The Mill is now run by sister Siobhan Peyton and Caitriona Peyton, locals who have worked their whole lives in food and drink, from the iconic Atlantic Bar and Grill, Mash micro-brewery and Peyton and Byrne Café Bakeries which they still run.
We are currently serving our restaurant & bar menu

Our bar is the soul of the building and, combined with two cosy snugs, there is no place better to enjoy a drink and catch up with friends. The beating heart of The Mill, everything flows from the bar and we believe it to be the most important place in the building, where everyone is always guaranteed a warm Norfolk welcome.
We have worked closely with Zeren Wilson to curate our Wine List.
Balinese industry icon Dre Masso is our mixologist and he has curated a superb cocktail list for those looking to add something extra special to their visit.
The Bar Menu includes some perfect dishes to enjoy over a drink or two, from light nibbles to main dishes.
We work closely with local drink producers, distillers and brewers to showcase the incredible variety of beverages this area has to offer, as well as our ‘Made at the Mill’ produce which we make on site using local ingredients.
Executive Chef Elliot Ketley is passionate about food and delivering the very best products to his customers. From his time as Executive Chef for Soho House Group and The Square, Elliot is now delighted to use the bountiful produce Norfolk has to offer.
From breakfasts and morning pastries for residents and the many passers by on their bicycles or horses, to an indulgent restaurant menu, classic bar menu and The Mill’s exciting new Garden Kitchen, there is something for everyone at any time of day.
Norfolk is home to some of the greatest produce on earth, and we are proud to work with, amongst others, the following view our suppliers.
Our south facing garden, featuring a stunning pergola, is the perfect suntrap and the ideal pace to enjoy an evening meal alfresco, or even just a crisp glass of rosé as you listen to the rush of the river or the buzzing of bees in the flower garden.
With six beautifully appointed en-suite bedrooms, each with stunning views of the River Wensum, Sculthorpe Mill is the perfect place to base yourself for your Norfolk escape. It's worth it just for the breakfast!
